Saying Good bye

I'm not really sure why, but I never got around to posting these photos.  They were from Nana's funeral back in June.  I look super pregnant in the photos and we weren't yet comfortable with telling everyone so that may explain why I didn't share them.

Uncle Rod was the first one to ditch his funeral finery; it was a hot day to be dressed in black.

This was the first gathering of all the cousins in forever; we seriously couldn't remember another time that we were all together.

I love this photo; Lola loves her Uncle Jon!

Easter Crafts and Lemon Meringue Pies

We are getting ready for Easter around our house; not in the traditional fasting and abstaining way,  but in the doing crafts and taking about bunnies and chocolate way.
We decorated our front door with glittery eggs; the mailman was impressed.

Tanta Ness came over for a visit and brought a Easter cookie decorating set.  Cookies, icing, candies, and time with Tanta Ness what could be better?

And I made my first lemon meringue pie. it was a lot harder and more involved then I ever thought.  In the end it turned out great and I think that Nana would have been proud.

Making Ice Cream - the science project

Last week they made ice cream at school. Unfortunately that was the day that I picked up Lola for a test run ballet class. She was disappointed to miss out on the ice cream fun, so I promised her that we would try it at home.
Her teachers sent home the recipe and we set about gathering all the ingredients.

Who knew that you could make ice cream in minutes with ziplock bags and ice?Mittens are a necessity for the shaking step of this project. The chemical reaction between the salt and ice makes it super cold. We both learned a lot from this project.
The finished product; delicious vanilla ice cream! We are definitely taking this idea with us when we go camping. Fresh ice cream in minutes, we all loved it!

Quinn and the playmat

Quinn is starting to be awake more, interact with us more, and frankly becoming more interesting. He loves spending time on his playmat and his favorite this activity is to work out some of his frustration on the cow.

Once he gets his arms and legs figured out; that cow is in trouble.

New Quinn Carrier

I comfortably carried Lola in the sling until she was almost a year old. There is no way that Quinn is going to make it through the spring in that sling. It was clear that I was going to have to get a new carrier, something that does a better job of supporting both of us. After chatting with lots of moms with big babies we decided on this one. He seems to like it; I think that I will always miss the sling, but my back is liking this one better already.

Mom and Baby Yoga

Quinn and I started yoga this week. He is a natural. He loved it once we go there, though as you can see from the photo he wasn't all that keen on going.

Lola and I before our first yoga class back in 2008. I can't believe that she was ever that little!

Quinn and the bottle

“Ladies and gentlemen, let the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games begin!”The Hunger Games has hit theaters! Which means that I will shortly be abandoning my family to sit in a dark theatre with my ladies while wearing themed t-shirts and drinking wine from a can. In order to facilitate this amazing night out, Quinn needs to cooperate and drink from a bottle. At this point he is thinking about liking the bottle, but isn't quite sold on the whole plastic nipple thing yet.
Lola, on the other hand, thinks that it is awesome and loves to help feed her little brother. Fingers crossed that Quinn decides that it is cool soon because I need to go out, no one around here appreciates my District 1 t-shirt.

St. Patrick's Day Party

There was a St. Patrick's Day Party at school, Sr. Pre-Schoolers are always looking for an excuse to party. Lola and I worked very hard at creating the perfect outfit to wear to the party; there was some screaming, crying and even "Mom is this even a shirt?" comments. But, in the end this is what we agreed on.
I think that we did pretty good!
Just wait till you see our Easter Party outfit!

Tummy time part 2

Lola has been helping Quinn with his tummy time. She lays down beside him and tries to show him how much fun it is. When that doesn't work she puts a blanket on him and pats his back.. and tells him stories of her day at school...
and when that doesn't work she play him a song.
Surprisingly the music seems to be helping.
